Cheers & Jeers of Community Ministry

Cheers for Janet Batdorf  and all her volunteers who planned and carried out neighborhood Vacation Bible School. This was the best attended VBS in years.

Cheers for Celly for having camp reminder letters and scheduled prepare ahead of time for neighborhood children going to Camp Swatara this summer.

Cheers for the BCM Board for hiring Vladimir and Joanna Beaufils’ SSYS to do development work for us.

Cheers for Lily Smith, Karen Johnson and Amy Ostott for a great start to our summer program for 5-11 year old children called Friends for Ever.  This ministry takes place on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Cheers also for YouthWorks which is providing weekly volunteers for this ministry and for Channels Food Rescue who will be providing breakfast and lunch each day.

Cheers for Bekah Leeper for getting this new BCM website up and running.

Cheers for Nautica Greenslade who completed the White Level of Agape-Satyagraha Training last week.

Cheers for the Third Annual Mennonite Youth Explosion at the Steelton Mennonite Church on Saturday, June 26. One of the workshops presented was on Agape-Satyagraha Conflict Resolution Training.

Cheers for Sasha Simpson who shared her ideas for a child safety project, Saving Our Neighborhood, at the June Weed and Seed meeting.

Cheers for all those businesses, organizations and individuals who made it possible by their donations to purchase bicycles for Harrisburg Police Officers. The police bicycles provide the advantages of walking patrols with the quick response of vehicle patrol.

Cheers for Jalen Shaw who completed the Green Level of Agape-Satyagraha Training last week.

Cheers for Lily Smith, Karen Johnson and Amy Otstott as they shape up the BHA, BCM, FCoB children’s summer program, Friends for Ever.

Cheers for Amber Cruz at Premier Property Management for continuing to check out the best way to repair the sprinkler system in BCM’s Derry St. property.

Cheers for Mariama Adamou-Souley who earned a refurbished desk top computer by completing ten different session of our Introduction to Computer Class.

Cheers for Waverly Chadwick, Kevin Webb and Rosa Landau who have volunteered over 50 hours to BCM in the first six months of 2010.

Cheers for Alyeshya Weidman, Charles Alton, Shinel Richardson, and Eden McGarvey all of whom have over 20 weeks of perfect attendance at Agape-Satyagraha Conflict Resolution Training.

Jeers for the gun shops in the Harrisburg area that do not take reasonable measures to prevent straw purchases thus allowing guns to get in the hands of youth and criminals.

Jeers for the lack of affordable anger management counseling in the Harrisburg area. BCM is receiving requests for such counseling.
