I am humbled as I receive donations to Brethren Community Ministries from those we serve. Each Friday Martha Danner passes a cup around her morning Bible study group to collect a donation for our ministries. Martha lives at the paxton Street Home. The people in the class are there to get food for their families after class.
The Friday before Thanksgiving a man in the food distribution line surprised me by pulling out a bag of coins. He said that the men, at the half-way house for those transitioning from prison, had been saving them. They wanted us to have them as a thanksgiving offering for the food we provide them each week. These offerings do not add up to much financially. But they add up to a great deal spiritually. Remember what Jesus said about the window’s offering “this poor widow has put in more than all the others.” (Luke 21:1-4)
